Our Creative Curriculum

Intent

At Hextable Primary School, our pupils are at the forefront of everything we do. We pride ourselves on our core values which encourage children to be Happy, Positive, Successful, Life-long Learners. Our commitment is for these to underpin all aspects of school life, including the curriculum.

The curriculum we offer incorporates the requirements of the National Curriculum 2014. It also encompasses a range of opportunities and cross-curricular approaches which build on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all children, whatever their starting point. Leaders and teachers have worked collectively to design a coherent curriculum covering all core and foundation subjects, maximising the use of our school and local environment. Within each topic, we incorporate key skills, which can be applied across the curriculum to give a holistic approach to learning.

We intend to deliver our curriculum at the highest standard to enable all of our pupils to acquire a thirst for developing their own skills and knowledge in order to be successful in their next stage of education and to firm foundations for future learning. Furthermore, the development of the whole child is critical to us at Hextable, whereby we aim to enable our children to blossom into lifelong learners and grow into active, thoughtful and global citizens.

Our curriculum is underpinned by the core British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and the tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs, as well as promoting inclusivity for every gender, race and protected characteristic. These are promoted throughout our curriculum and woven into everything we teach. The high expectations and mutual respect apply to all stakeholders and help to maintain our beautiful environment.

In order to achieve our intent, we strive to provide motivating learning experiences, in real-life and meaningful contexts. Through these, our goal is for our pupils to recognise, for themselves, the importance of learning for their current and future lives. Our learning experiences aim to teach our children in preparation for the jobs that haven’t even been created, YET!

We aim to inspire the next generation by fostering a love of learning and consistently encourage all learners to be the best they can be by using a growth mindset. Everyone has the capacity to learn and evolve and through nurturing, challenging and creative experiences we believe all children can be successful. We are consistently providing enrichment opportunities to engage in learning, and believe that childhood should be a happy, exciting and enquiring time, where there are no limits to curiosity or a ceiling on the ability to develop and learn.  At Hextable Primary School, children leave with a strong sense of belonging, with the confidence to achieve anything they set their minds to and the ability to be Happy, Positive, Successful Life-long Learners.
